Vidcast: Working On Our Business

This is Part 2 of my E-Myth vidcast series. The past few days I’ve had a lot of fun documenting processes and practices as Brian and I have focused our work on our business rather than working too hard in our business. We’re already seeing some results. I share what we’ve done in this vidcast.

Seriously, I’m interested in knowing how your company/organization documents its processes, procedures, etc. What kind of “operations manual” do you use?

  1. I’ve been reading Joel on Software and he makes the point that specification documents should be read. If they’re too boring or too dense, and end up not being read by anyone, they’re worthless. Likewise, the operations manual should probably not be too heavy or too verbose to the point that it can’t be read and referred to.

I like the idea of using a wiki for these types of documents because of the versioning.

  2. Hat off to you guys to take the step to set up a start-up! i watched your last video where you talking about setting process guidelines and standards, that’s essential for the success of the company in the long run.

I have been working for a large software company in a management role for close to 7 years, the on-going improvement that will increase the overall efficiency and effectiveness of everyone (apart from the element of leadership) is coming from process improvement.

I definitely think you guys are on the right track, and hope you succeed in your venture!
