I should probably given Fantastico a try. I typically install stuff manually or make my stuff in custom PHP or Rails apps.

I recently synchronized three or four sets of bookmarks using del.icio.us. The firefox plugin is pretty nice.

The basic idea behind tagging goes all the way back to file system design. We categorized things in folders due to the similarities to static filing cabinets and due to the "tree structure" we tend to abuse in Computer Science.

If a file system could truly be redesigned from scratch, wouldn't it be better if everything resided in one big folder, but had different tags or "meta-data" to indicate what it was. You'd have your base tag of course (Excel file, Word document, Win32 Executable, DLL, JPEG, etc.) plus all your additional tags (family photos 2003, etc)

Of course that brings up the issue, should there be one absolute path to a file? How do you deal with installs / uninstalls.

People are so use to the folder based file system I doubt we'll see tagging make it to the desktop outside of tools like Google's desktop search. We know how WinFS ended up.

Anywho, nice upgrade.

Lucky, you had Fantastico to help. I had to manually backup the database, tar the old files, and copy things back in a few at a time. Then there's the inevitable plug-in and theme upgrading.

Nice new theme by the way.
