Posted by Jimmy'z on February 13, 2008

Installing and maintaining a WordPress blog is really nice on Hostmonster and Bluehost because it uses Fantastico, a very nice application manager. In this screencast, I will walk you through the steps of setting up a new WordPress installation.

Note About WordPress

WordPress is a very nice piece of software that can be used for more than just blogs. In future screencasts, I will show how to use WordPress to create a corporate informational site. I will also show how you can actually use WordPress to sell products.

A Note About My Sponsor

Please note: I am an affiliate of Hostmonster and Bluehost. I receive a commission for any account sign-ups that are referred from this site. This allows me to put in the time necessary to deliver useful content. This blog is hosted on Hostmonster. I have been a customer of both Hostmonster and Bluehost for several years now and have been very satisfied by their customer service and reliability. Hostmonster and Bluehost are the same company.

    Hey Dave
My name is Justin Ziska. My father is Matthew Ziska. He told me he bumped into you at a high school reunion, recently. He said you were talking about a studio you work at, in american fork. It peaked my interest to check out your site. I record, mix, engineer and produce, my own personal music also, music I perform with my band. I’m wanting to create my solo music project. I want to do some recording and production at a studio for an upcoming “october EP”, internet release/sell i’m trying to pull off. My gmail is justinziska@gmail. i’m interested in prices for studio time and a little info on what kind of a musical sound I could get with your equipment. Hope to hear….

Hi Jimmy, thanks for the video. I’m close to signing up with host monster or blue host and maybe you can answer a couple of questions. I’m happy to use you as a referral.

How does one customize a wp blog using wordpress templates or other methods, say, dreamweaver, within blue host? Is this easy and flexible? Your video shows us the default WP theme. How does one go about changing that?

And, the purpose of our blog is to show a series of videos on a particular subject and allow viewers to comment on them. There will be dozens of videos, and I don’t want the endless scroll in order to get to the ones viewers may want. Can a single blog have multiple pages –each page with it’s own video and own set of comments?

Thanks so much for your help and your clear tutorial.

    Greg

Thank you Jimmy! You were the missing link… the instructions on BlueHost forget to mention that you have to go to Fantastico to find Wordpress. They just start with “Choose an admin name…”

Hi, I just installed WP on my site, but some of the setting are coming different on my account.
    I have hostmonster account.
When I set up WP using fantastico, it doesnt ask me for email configuration.

    Asfia,

It looks like hostmonster is doing something differently now with the email settings. You should be able to ignore the email portion of my tutorial. I think hostmonster will set this up for you automatically.

I also have heard that some people aren’t even seeing fantastico in the control panel any more. If so, there is an installer named “Simple Scripts” that can also help you get WordPress up and going.

    Hope this helps.
