About Me

photo-459.jpgHi, my name is Jimmy Zimmerman. I consider myself a web guru and entrepreneur. I love to build things on the web because of there is great potential to reach a vast audience. I am also a husband, father, and a Star Wars fanatic.

I began blogging in 2005 as a way of sharing my ideas. About that time I was hired on at Provo Labs, which was an Internet business incubator. I worked on a lot of research and development projects before leaving to venture into a few other start-up companies. My most recent venture was a web consulting business in which we built various applications in Ruby on Rails and PHP. I’ve become very involved in the genealogy software space as I helped to develop FamilyInHistory.com and USFamilyTree.com.

My goal on this blog is to share insights and experiences in web development and in starting a business. I’ll likely be posting a lot more techie, Ruby-related articles.

photo-712.jpgI am actively working on a Ruby library that wraps the new FamilySearch API. The project is named ruby-fs-api and is hosted at Google Code. Open Source contribution is still a pretty new thing to me, but I’ve enjoyed opening up this project.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have a little boy who is almost one year old, and he’s a lot of fun to play with. My wife has been the blessing of my life. She has always been very supportive of all the things that I do. She’s a ton of fun to be with and we never get tired of being together.
